Day 1: Depart from USA.
Day 2: After breakfast, we will visit Ecuador’s namesake: the equator! First, you will be taken to the Intiñan Museum, home to the the most geographically accurate equator line. Here, you will spend some time learning about Ecuadorian history and performing some fun experiments to witness the magnetic forces of the equator. Up next, you will visit the more widely known Middle of the World Monument. Dinner and overnight in Ecuador.
Day 3: After breakfast, we begin our exploration in Quito’s Old Town. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Old Town will help us take in the Spanish, Moorish and indigenous influences of the region. We will take in the marvels of the narrow streets, unique architecture and lively plazas like the Plaza Grande. We will visit La Merced, where supposedly dwells. Then we are off to the God’s house, la Basilica del Voto Nacional, and we may just climb the towers, if you have the guts. We will also make sure you have some free time to explore. Dinner and Overnight in Ecuador.
Day 4: After breakfast, we head back into Quito for another day of discovery time for a bird’s-eye view of Quito. We start today’s journey on a skytram (the TeleferiQo) up the side of Volcan Pichuncha to the top of Cruz Loma.. After Lunch, We will visit places like El Panecillo, the giant statue of the Madonna and the only one in the world with wings. We cannot miss La Compania de Jesus, Quito’s most extravagant church built in 1605. Then there is the 17th century Monastery of San Diego. Dinner and overnight in Ecuador.
Day 5: Upon our arrival in Lima, We will enjoy an orientation tour en route to our hotel. We will enjoy an afternoon tour of Miraflores and a special Folklore dinner show at a local restaurant.
Day 6: After breakfast, Off to Lima (Peru) , the oldest capital in South America, with a superb combination of Spanish Colonial and 19th century European architecture. Visit the Main Square of Lima, passing by the Lima Cathedral, the Government Palace, Municipal Palace and the Church of Santo Domingo where the remains of the most important saints of Lima Santa Rosa and San Martin de Porres are found. Visit Santa Rosa de Lima’s church that was Rosa’s monastery and her residence, San Martin de Porres´ house, which is now an asylum, and the famous Nazarene Church’s “Señor de los Milagros”. We will visit the modern Miraflores and San Isidro districts, ending the tour at the Love Park, located in front of the ocean, which shows a spectacular sight of Lima’s Bay Dinner and overnight in Lima.
Day 7: Machu Picchu Ruins. This town is also known as “Machu Picchu Pueblo” and is the last stop before entering the remains of the most important archaeological site in Peru. Machu Picchu means “Old Mountain” and is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. You’ll finally reach Machu Picchu (the ancient sanctuary and retreat for the Inca Pachacutec) after a short transfer by bus through the mountains. Here, when we arrive at the exact destination that is the highlight of your trip, we will have those special moments which will most certainly be cherished forever. Some of the places you can visit include the Intipunku, or “Sun Gate”, where the sun rises every day through a stone passageway, or the Inca Bridge, an incredible stone building that served as the entrance and exit of the citadel. After Lunch, Exploring some of the many attractions of the citadel. You can climb the Wayna Picchu (subject to space availability), which means “Young Mountain” as opposed to Machu Picchu, the “Old Mountain”. This ascent takes about an hour and its main attraction is the “Temple of the Moon”, a complex of underground structures likely to have been used by the elite.
Day 8: Off to RIO DE JANEIRO. Upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro. First, we will stop for a nice lunch. Then we continue with our City Tour of Rio, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, the train through the Tijuaca Forest up Corcovado to the Statue of Christ the Redeemer (subject to time and space availability) and cable car to the top of the Iconic Sugar Loaf for spectacular views of Rio de Janeiro. After the train ride back down, we check in at our hotel for overnight in Rio de Jeneiro.
Day 9: RIO DE JANEIRO / SAN PAULO. After breakfast, this morning we drive to Aparecida, 155 miles southwest of Rio, home to and named after the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aparecida, the patron saint of Brazil, declared so by Pope Pius XI in 1929. Pope Benedict XVI delivered a speech here in May 2007. Continue our drive to San Paulo for overnight.
Day 10: After Breakfast. Visit the Cathedral in Sao Paolo and transfer to Aparecida. Visit the most important sanctuary of Brazil, the principal patroness of Brazil, the Basilica of the National Shrine of Our Lady Aparecida. Free time and celebrate the Holy Mass. Dinner and overnight.
Day 11: This morning we fly to Argentina. Upon arrival, our panoramic tour will view the main points of Buenos Aires, typical neighborhoods like La Boca, which retains the spirit of Italian immigration and Palermo with its big green spaces, exclusive avenues and first class bars and restaurants. The Recoleta, marked by a French style, is one of the fanciest residential neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, with great cultural activity and spaces dedicated to the arts. visit the tomb of Evita. Overnight at our hotel.
Day 12: BUENOS AIRES. Today is a full day private excursion to Tigre & San Isidro cathedral. This includes a one hour navigation over the Tigre delta which combines a ride on the modern Coastal Train that passes through Olivos and San Isidro to the Tigre Port. Sail along the Delta along some of the uncountable channels and forest-covered islands, yacht clubs and weekend houses in the Paraná River delta. During the cruise, you will see the natural environment and a network of water canals where water sports can be practiced. Then to San Isidro Cathedral. Dinner and Overnight at our hotel.
Day 13: We will begin our day by following the life of Pope Francis, starting with the early years.. Our first stop is Flores, a working class neighbourhood, and birthplace to Pope Francis.Continue on to Our Lady of Mercy Church where he was baptized, and the adjoining school, St. Joseph’s, where he took his first communion and attended primary school. It was here as a teenager that he received his vocational calling. We will learn about the childhood and adolescence of Pope Francis and see what factors and influences may have shaped his beliefs and stances as an inspirational world leader today. Celebrate Mass at St. Joseph’s. Next we take the traditional route of the Catholic parishioners, with our guide. Buenos Aires possesses a rich Colonial heritage, and its churches are a fundamental part of it. In this tour, we’ll trace back the active role the Catholic Church played in the country’s political history. We continue our journey at the Manzana de las Luces (The Block of Lights), occupied by the Jesuits since 1633. On this plot the order started in 1712 the construction of Bavarian-Baroque San Ignacio de Loyola church. Next we visit the Metropolitan Cathedral, actually more resembling a Greek temple than a Catholic church. In the Cathedral we find José de San Martín’s mausoleum.
Day 14: Argentine Side After breakfast you will depart on a private, full day tour to the Argentine side of the Iguazu Falls where you will have intimate views of this unforgettable section of the Iguazu River. An experienced guide will show you the hidden gems of this unique National Park and will take you off the beaten path to show you the best views. Lower and upper walkways permit up close and personal experiences with this magnificent spectacle of nature. Trails through the 210 square mile reserve provide visitors with various views of the Falls, especially the largest one, Devil's Throat. The ecological train ride is included in the tour. Return to the hotel in the late afternoon. This day will be a real adventure, full of thrills and spills, and is an absolute must for the adventurer at heart. Dinner and Overnight in Argentina.
Day 15: Fly Home.
Please note: We do our best to ensure that all sites listed in this itinerary will be seen. However, due to scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances beyond our control, sites may be visited on a different day than listed. If this happens it will also necessitate a change in the restaurant for dinner. However, we will never sacrifice the quality of the meal, all restaurants will meet Proximo Travel's very high standards. Since we have several different trip configurations touring at the same time, it is likely that groups on different tours will be combined when their itineraries overlap in certain areas.
