Trip Itinerary

    Day 1: Departure from USA. Dinner and Breakfast will be served in-flight.

    Day 2: Arrive in Munich, Germany. Visit the former artists' quarter Schwabing and go all along the impressive Ludwig- and Prinzregenten Street lined by magnificent buildings: Theatiner Church, Hall of Generals (Feldherrnhalle), House of Arts, Bavarian National Museum, and the Angel of Peace. The elegant Maximilian Street takes you back to the centre of town offering a view of the Bavarian Parliament, Deutsches Museum, Royal Palace and the Opera House. In the ancient part of town we point out the well-known Hofbrauhaus, the medieval town gates and the colorful open air market the Viktualienmarkt. Dinner and overnight in Munich.

    Day 3: Early departure from Munich for arrival in Venice/Padua, Italy. Visit the Basilica of St. Anthony of Padua in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight in Padua.

    Day 4: Tour of Venice: an amazing city built on water. Visit St. Mark's Basilica and plaza. Optional: Gondola ride and shopping. Enjoy the beautiful streets and bridges of Venice. Dinner and overnight in Padua.

    Day 5: Early start after breakfast for Siena. Visit this beautiful medieval city with its center gathered within ancient walls which hold beautiful monuments and museums. Visit the Piazza del Campo, Palazzo Comunale and Torre del Mangia. Visit the Duomo, which is a majestic example of Romanesque-Gothic style architecture. See the remains of St. Catherine of Siena at St. Dominique's Church. Dinner and overnight in Assisi.

    Day 6: Tour of Assisi. See the tombs of St. Francis and St. Clare; enjoy a peaceful walk on the streets of Assisi. Dinner on the way to Rome. Overnight in Rome

    Day 7: Start around 9:00am. Visit the Colosseum, the symbol of the city of Rome; a great building that has been standing since 80 A.D. Then visit St. John Lateran, the first Basilica ever to be built in the Roman Empire. In the afternoon, go to the breathtaking Catacombs where 500,000 people were buried. After the Catacombs our private bus will take us to the charming Castel Gandolfo where the Pope's Summer Residence is located. Awesome place with its spectacular Lake Albano, just like those towns you see on TV. Wine tasting and dinner at 6:00 pm at a local upscale restaurant: eat where the Italians eat. Several courses of delicious Italian food. Red and white wine included. Back at the hotel around 9:00 pm. Overnight in Rome.

    Day 8: We will have an early start as our private bus leaves around 7:00 am to the Vatican to experience the 10:00 am Audience with the Pope. We will see the Pope very closely; sometimes we even shake his hand. There will be time for lunch in the area of the Vatican. Before we visit the Spanish Steps. This is the place where the Romans hung out. From there we will walk to Trevi Fountain, and have time for shopping. Followed by a walk to the Pantheon, the oldest functional building in the world, and then to the great artistic place of Piazza Navona around 4:30 pm. Dinner at Piazza Navona. Red and white wine included. Casual Dress throughout the day. Overnight in Rome.

    Day 9: Start the day around 9:30 am, by visiting St. Peter's in the Vatican, the largest Basilica in the world. There will be time for private devotion and shopping before lunch. In the afternoon we will see the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel (the Pope's private Chapel). Long pants, capris, or skirts below the knee, shoulders covered. Time to rest before dinner in the area of the hotel. Red and white wine included. Overnight in Rome.

    Day 10: Early start for departure to San Giovanni in the region of Puglia. This is where the Franciscan Capuchin priest, Padre Pio da Pietralcina, who lived, labored, and in 1968 passed away. We celebrate Mass in the convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie where Padre Pio lived and afterwards hear about his life and works from the Franciscan friars. Dinner and overnight in San Giovanni Rotondo.

    Day 11: Free day in San Giovanni Rotondo. Dinner and overnight in Rome.

    Day 12: Departure from Rome for the USA.

    Please note: We do our best to ensure that all sites listed in this itinerary will be seen. However, due to scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances beyond our control, sites may be visited on a different day than listed. If this happens it will also necessitate a change in the restaurant for dinner. However, we will never sacrifice the quality of the meal, all restaurants will meet Proximo Travel's very high standards. Since we have several different trip configurations touring at the same time, it is likely that groups on different tours will be combined when their itineraries overlap in certain areas.
