Day 1: Depart from your hometown in the US and fly overnight to Paris, France.
Day 2: Arrive in Paris, France. You will be met by the tour guide upon arrival. Start at the gardens of the Tuileries; make your way up the Champs-Elysees to shop (or just window shop) at Louis Vuitton and Herm's. See the tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Napoleon's Arc de Triomphe and look back to see the sweeping view of Paris' main boulevard. Visit the artists and antique shops of Montmartre. Dinner and overnight in Paris.
Day 3: After breakfast have a bus tour of the city: see the most famous sites including the Eiffel Tower, the Opera, and the Palace of the Invalides. Tour the Cathedral of Notre Dame, and the Louvre, the most famous art museum, to see the Mona Lisa and the winged victory, Nike. Finally, take a tour of the Pantheon, where France's most prestigious writers and philosophers are buried. We will then drive to Orleans for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: We will have breakfast and check out of the hotel. Then off to the cathedral for Mass. The Orleans Cathedral is a beautiful example of Gothic architecture whose construction began in 1278. It is most well known as the church in which Joan of Arc attended the evening Mass on May 2, 1429. For this reason the story of Joan of Arc is now told in the church’s stained glass windows. After our celebration of Mass we will tour the Cathedral, then have time for lunch in the area. From there we will have a brief walking tour of the city followed by a free afternoon. In the late afternoon we will board the bus for a short ride to Chartres. Upon arrival we will have dinner and overnight in Chartres.
Day 5: After breakfast we set off for the medieval cathedral in Chartres also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Chartres. Construction of this UNESCO World Heritage Site began in 1194, and it has been preserved exceptionally well. Many people come to vererate the Sancta Camisa which is said to be the tunic worn by the Virgin Mary at Christ’s birth. After Mass we will have a tour of the cathedral and time for lunch before our tour of the city. The rest of the afternoon will be at leisure and we will depart for LeHavre before dinner. Overnight in LeHavre.
Day 6: Today we will see the town of LeHavre beginning with Mass in the cathedral and a tour. We will have lunch, a tour of the city, and free time for shopping. Before dinner we will drive to Normandy for overnight.
Day 7: Early breakfast and begin the D-Day tour to discover Le Memoria de Caen and the D-day Landing Beaches. From the harbor of Arromanches to the Point du Hock and taking in Omaha Beach on the way. Listen to the story of the done day that led to the end of the Second World War. Bus ride to Rouen for dinner and overnight.
Day 8: We will begin our day by celebrating Mass at the cathedral. In addition to its architecture the Cathedral is famous for its musical tradition. The famous impressionist, Monet, has also featured the cathedral in some of his paintings. This will be followed by a tour of the city and time on your own. We will proceed to Amiens for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: This morning we will have breakfast at the hotel before departing for Mass at the city’s Cathedral. It is well known for its height; it is the tallest complete cathedral in France; as well as its internal size. After Mass and time for lunch in the area we will have a city tour and time to explore on your own before we drive to Reims for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Today we will visit our last city of the trip. The cathedral, the site of our Mass this morning, has had a prominent ceremonial role in the French monarchical history. Similar to Westminster Abbey in the UK, it is traditionally the site of coronation of the kings of France. The most important part of the ceremony is the anointing with the Holy Ampulla dating back to 496. We will tour the city after lunch and have the afternoon at leisure before going to Paris for our farewell dinner and overnight.
Day 11: After breakfast our bus takes us to the airport for our flight back to the USA.
Please note: We do our best to ensure that all sites listed in this itinerary will be seen. However, due to scheduling conflicts, or other circumstances beyond our control, sites may be visited on a different day than listed. If this happens it will also necessitate a change in the restaurant for dinner. However, we will never sacrifice the quality of the meal, all restaurants will meet Proximo Travel's very high standards.
